Well, it's been a week now

In that week I've started refilling carts, which means I've been putting a 4 or 5 drops of the juice in the cartridge from the end that connects to the battery.

How have I been doing on analog cigarettes? Down by HALF. Just that easily, with the no-nicotine cartridges, I've cut the number of cigarettes I smoke in half. The vapor is satisfying to the oral part of the habit, so most of the time I can just grab the electronic cigarette, take a couple puffs and I'm good.

It's pretty neat.

It's going pretty good

I'm still smoking what vapers call "analog" cigarettes, but a lot less. Maybe I should have gotten some of the lowest nicotine e-juice (the juice you can refill carts with) because I'm getting hit harder than I expected with wanting the occasional analog. But in the last 24 hours I've smoked half as many cigarettes as usual.
I tried the coffee. WOW. I think I found my favorite flavor. I was pretty suspicious. I take my coffee pretty seriously. Okay, very seriously. But it tastes like coffee smells brewing. Steve (the owner of Vapor4Life) says he based the flavor off of Caribou Coffee French Roast. I have no clue what that tastes like. We have caribou here, and caribou sausage here, but no caribou coffee places that I've seen. Plus I buy locally roasted coffees. It's not at all sweet, and the RY4 and the vanilla are both sweet. I like both a lot, but not for all the time. I think coffee maybe my all the time flavor.
It does taste just like coffee smells brewing though, and I love that smell.
So far, my family has smelled NONE of the carts I've put into the electronic cigarettes and vaped. (vaped= smoked, except you know, no smoke, just vapor)
There are a lot of kinds of e-cigarettes. My choice was a manual. Which doesn't act just like a cigarette, the automatics, you suck, they produce vapor, it can take a couple puffs to warm it up according to everything I've read. I wanted control over it, so I got a manual. It's got a little button on the battery, I push the button, hold it down while taking a drag, let it up, exhale. Also a bonus, a lot of users find that the manuals don't use up battery time as fast.
My throat is a little scratchy. The PG based carts have a stronger "throat hit" then the VG carts so it feels more like cigarettes. We shall see how I feel in a week.

It arrived yesterday.

I picked it up from my dad's house yesterday. I've read good things about how fast Steve, the owner of V4L mails out and I wasn't disappointed.
On the site, it looked like they were out of RY4 carts (vaping slang for cartomizers)in 0 nicotine, so in my notes, I asked if they had any.
I guess they had a couple, because I got the 5 vanilla and the 5 coffee I ordered and for the 5 that came with the kit I ordered, I got 3 RY4 and 2 cappuccino which shows a nice attention to detail. He included a couple extras, plus 2 small bottles of vapor juice/e-liquid, one vanilla, one coffee. That kind of customer service was above and beyond. Also a bunch of business cards. Fair enough, if I like this, I'll certainly give people cards.
So I've got a "manual USB passthrough" to use while I'm on the computer. That's an e-cigarette that is powered by a USB plug. It's on my powered USB hub now with one of those RY4 carts on it. I also have a couple regular batteries to plug carts into while I'm out or not by my computer.
I put a vanilla cart on one of the manual batteries.
It's not smoking and I think it will take a little while to get used to it, but it is satisfying. The vanilla tastes very vanilla, and I like it a lot. The RY4 tastes like burnt sugar smells. I love that smell so I really like the flavor of that.
Other than that, well, I just got it. More later!

Introduction

I've been a smoker since I was 13, I'm 38 now. So if you do the math, that means I've been smoking 25 years.
I don't have any horror stories to tell about smoking. My parents smoked, my grandparents smoked, but my grandfather's cancer was because of chemicals dumped in Vietnam (he was a military adviser) and my grandmother and mother didn't die of cancer. My father is 61, and pretty healthy too. He is missing part of a lung from being born premature, but the rest of his lungs are pretty sound even though he's smoked since he was 12.
I'm sorry. I know, everything about smoking says I should tell you how someone I loved died a horrible painful death from it, and I know lots of people have. But that's not my personal experience and that's what this blog is supposed to be about. My personal experience.
I do want to quit. I've been trying for the last 14 years. I've been able to almost quit, but I've never quite been able to kick. Currently I smoke one of the lightest cigarettes on the market, and have for 13 years. I have no problems going a few hours without a cigarette when I'm busy doing something else and that makes me think at this point, I'm more hooked on the ritual of it, the movement and the habit of it than the nicotine and tar. I really don't want to try patches and gum because they have a lot more nicotine than I'm used to, and I did try sucking lollipops, straws, all sorts of alternatives.
Enter the electronic cigarette. Called vaping by people who "smoke" them, they are a rechargable battery, atomizer, and cartridge with fluid. The battery heats the fluid which creates a vapor the atomizer allows you to inhale. You can get the cartridges (called carts by people who use them) in varying nicotine strengths. Again, all of them stronger than my current brand of cigarettes. The cartridges and the juice to refill them come in a lot of flavors too. The base fluid is propylene glycol (pg) or vegetable glycerin (vg). Propylene glycol is what's used in a lot of fog machines, so if you've ever been in a haunted house or a good rock concert, you've inhaled pg
vapor. Vegetable glycerin is used in baking and candy making. So whatever else comes out about electronic cigarettes, it's probably a whole lot less harmful to your health than cigarettes are.
After reading a lot of reviews on E-Cigarette Forum and watching some reviews on youtube, I finally decided that for my first e-cigarette, I'd order the Vapor King manual kit. So that's been ordered, just a couple hours ago. I'll let you know when it arrives and what I think of it. I ordered it with vanilla and coffee cartridges with 0 nicotine.
